Halley’s Casino, by Mark JG Fahey
When a young boy was suddenly adopted from an orphanage run by a cruel woman, he knew his life was about to improve. Little did he know
Nebula (friends call him Neb) Yorker, was raised by two older college professors, growing up home schooled, with an open mind. That produced a variety of interests and knowledge, along with a desire to know more.
So it was no surprise he was outside with his telescope to view the rare appearance of Halley’s Comet as it passed overhead. What was the surprise was the light that appeared, coming toward him, and the little man dressed in a tuxedo with red shoes.
To say that began a new stage of Neb’s life is an understatement.
Comet or Casino?
The little man in the tuxedo takes Nebula Yorker on a startling trip, right up to Halley’s Comet. There he learns of an incredible history, one that Earth is not yet mature enough to handle. But why is he there?
So much new for Neb to discover, but one man–another human–wants to cut it short. Within days, Neb is snatched back to Rome—BC, not expected to survive the time travel. Now he must discover his purpose there before he attempts to return. The big question is will there be anything left of Halley’s Casino by that time.
Author, Mark JG Fahey, has created a unique world here, one in which Halley’s Comet is merely a covering for an intergalactic casino that has been in operation for thousands of years. How time travel worked its way into that universe adds to the curiosity. What an imagination the author has to create such a fun fantasy.
While at first the story seemed more fitting for young adults, there is much to intrigue and amuse adults as well. John Lennon ,for instance, the Roman caesar and his queen, the Rolling Stones.
You may want to pay close attention to many of the names in the story as well. Surprises await you. It will definitely appeal to science fiction readers. Yet anyone can enjoy the journey planned for Neb. Get read for a fun ride.

Upon the arrival of Halley’s Comet, Neb is confronted by a mysterious stranger who literally swoops out of the night sky. What happens next will change the course of Neb’s life and that of all he befriends.
This stranger (Mr. Tict) reveals to Neb that Halley’s is not a comet at all, but an Intergalactic Casino that has been posing as a comet for countless years. Mr. Tict is the Concierge of the Casino and he has come back to Earth to recruit Neb as his assistant.
What happens next is an eye-opening experience for young Neb that no one on Earth can imagine. It can only be explained by watching old Star Trek reruns, while eating cheese sandwiches and drinking hot chocolate. From androids with attitude to a vast assortment of alien beings and historic individuals, with a touch of time travel from ancient Babylon to 1757 London and back to Rome of 12 BCE, Neb soon learns that his past, present and future have always lain in the stars above.
It’s a rock and roll ride chock full of chaos, a formidable nemesis, drama, satire, humour, death and new beginnings, with revelations that Neb never saw coming.
Even John Lennon is amused!
Starting out on a quiet evening of star gazing, Nebula Yorker finds himself caught up in the most extraordinary time travel and planet saving adventure of a lifetime.
And that’s only the beginning of what is to come.
